The people who aren’t hipsters can’t make a hipster joke worth a damn because they don’t have a clue in hell about hipster culture. Blah blah blah blah ironic t-shirts. What?! Ironic t-shirts? Really? When was the last time you saw someone who wasn’t a frat bro in an “ironic t-shirt”? 2005? If that? Good comedy, and ESPECIALLY good satire requires specificity. How the hell are you supposed to lampoon a culture you don’t know anything about? Hipster jokes made by non-hipsters are invariably vague, feeble, and out of date.

In which I’ve never met a hipster joke I liked

Tessa is right on the money in this post. When it comes down to it, pretty much all “humor” or criticism about “hipsters” is really just people inarticulately expressing a fear of someone they feel threatened by in some way. It’s always “not me,” and there’s always some weak attempt to front like you’re not, on some level, upset about not being part of something.
